Master These Basic Dog Obedience Training Techniques

The fundamental commands to teach your dog are come, sit and stay. The relationship between you and your dog will be based upon these three commands for life. Whenever you are exercising your dog, it's not advisable for him to be running wildly in the open, you want to show him off as the perfect dog that you expect him to be.

Getting frustrated because your dog sniffs people when you are visiting? Are you puzzled when your dog runs away from you in the reserve while everyone else's pet happily comes back to them?

The answer is simple, enroll in a dog obedience training course. Your pet can learn how to be well disciplined within a few weeks provided that you are prepared to spend some of your time and give your dog lots of attention.

No matter where you live, you will find a dog obedience training facility nearby, so if you can't teach your dog by yourself there is plenty of support available at any one of the available classes. Not only will you be training your dog you will be socializing with him, getting him used to other people and other dogs.

Treats are a great way to teach your dog obedience; you can give him a treat when he does something you want him to do, or if he ignores your orders you don't give him a treat. Don't shout at your dog as it will frighten him and you must avoid that at all costs, you want to form a happy relationship with him. Dogs are man's best friend, depending upon how you treat them.

Any time you are doing your basic dog training try and carry out the lessons away from any outside influences like birds or cats that he might chase. Walk with him to a quiet beach or vacant area that maybe nearby, where there aren't any other people or animals. Tell your dog firmly that you want him to sit, then take your hand and place it on his back and gently guide his bottom down, when it is down say sit and show him that you are pleased with him and give him a treat.

By regularly repeating this exercise, your dog will sit when he is told, because he knows that by doing what he is told he will be compensated and also because he can see that you are pleased with him. Eventually your dog will naturally do what you tell him, and there will be no need to give him a reward.

When dogs are born they are like soft clay, they need to be formed and groomed. You can teach your dog from any age but it is far easier to start when they are pups as an old dog may just not have the incentive to learn.
