Yet, they are given less money than single or married women, provided that they are employed in the first place. They have minimal support and must hire someone to mind the youngsters when they are working. If they become ill, the situation becomes desperate, both in terms of income and care for the kids.

Some years ago, the government census estimated that over 10 million single mums live in the United States. Many of these single mothers are starting to band together in local organizations to help fight for single mums rights. Child care centers, financial and social services are a few of the advantages there are to being a group member. Other single mums are petitioning members of congress to change laws that make it legal to inquire into a persons personal affairs. There are grass roots movements of single mums in nearly every community across the country that are fighting for single mums rights, so that all single mothers like themselves, will have identical rights in the workplace.
